Giving Thanks

On Monday, November 19, 2012 Static Salon volunteered at the LA Downtown Women's Center. We cooked and served lunch to the women who are participants and members of the Center. We served about 100-150 women on Monday. 

We also presented the $5,000 check to the LA Downtown Women's Center from our 

Viva La Cure Breast Cancer Fundraisers.

Cooking and serving lunch for these ladies was a very humbling experience, one that none of us will ever forget. The smiles on their faces when they found out that we raised money for the DWC's Mental and Medical Health Clinic were priceless.

We are so happy and blessed that we were able to participate in helping these ladies and this wonderful Center.

 

Helping the community

Helping the community and our beautiful Mother Earth is a 

HUGE passion of ours here at Static Salon.

 Not just during the holiday season, but all year round. Every year, we participate in AVEDA's annual Beach Clean Up for Earth Month. We help with the Downtown Women's Center in Los Angeles' Women's Day in the park, where we provide hair and make up services for the women of the DWC for a fashion show. We dedicate the whole month of October to VIVA LA CURE, breast cancer events to raise money to help fund breast cancer research and provide mammograms. This November we will be cooking lunch for the members and residents of the Downtown Women's Center in Los Angeles. 

We are so excited to have this opportunity on Monday, November 19, 2012 

to talk with and cook for the women of the DWC. This is an experience that will definitely be extremely humbling and unforgettable.

I tend to over look this amazing Chakra Collection AVEDA has created. Yet every time I go back to them I fall in love all over again!

Last Friday, May 19th, 2012, Static Salon volunteered to do hair and make up for a fashion show at "A Women's Day In The Park". An annual event the Downtown Women's Center puts on for the women who frequent the center and whom are members. 

While we did hair and make up on these ladies they shared their stories with us. I can't explain how humbling this experience was. I am so glad that I was a part of this event. The women that attended this event were introduced to different health and legal services.

The women who come to the Downtown Women's Center are homeless, formerly homeless, or experiencing extreme poverty; they cope with mental and chronic illnesses, physical disabilities, chronic abuse and domestic violence, as well as aging related-issues.

There are 71 apartment style rooms at the center. The average women is a member of the DWC for 7-9 years. About 200 women visit the drop-in Day Center each day. The ladies can take advantage of many services the DWC has to offer, including: meals, showers, computers, telephones, mail, and counseling.

This is a mural at the Downtown Women's Center of the two ladies who started it all. This mural is created by the thumb prints of all the ladies who stayed at the shelter when it first opened. It is also signed by everyone.

Vidal Sassoon

Vidal Sassoon, one of the greatest Hair Legends passed away earlier this morning. 

"When I first came into hair, women were coming in and you'd place a hat on their hair and you'd dress their hair around it," says Sassoon. "We learned to put discipline in the haircuts by using actual geometry, actual architectural shapes and bone structure. The cut had to be perfect and layered beautifully, so that when a woman shook it, it just fell back in."

Vidal Sassoon changed the world of hairdressing, by creating amazing, detailed work, that inspired millions. Vidal Sassoon is a beauty icon, that will forever remain in our hearts and an inspiration to our daily work. 

Doing our part to help keep the Earth Clean

Last weekend Static Salon teamed up with AVEDA and The Surfrider Foundation 

to help clean up the Earth. The girls at Static Salon met the Surfrider Foundation 

and members of the AVEDA team at the Santa Ana River Bed, 

to pick up trash.

Every year Static Salon and  AVEDA partner with the Surfrider Foundation during Earth Month to raise money in fight for clean water and in awareness to keep the Earth clean.

This week, I wanted to showcase some of the work from the girls in the salon! I'm so proud of all the girls and the beautiful work they are creating.

This is what it is all about, turning someone's bad hair day into a beautiful one.

Happy Earth Month!

April is Earth Month! 

Earth month is especially important to us at Static Salon. Every year we team up with AVEDA and the Surfrider Foundation to help raise money in the fight for clean water and to protect our beautiful Mother Earth. 

Since 1999, AVEDA has raised over 22 Million dollars to protect our earth and its peoples. In the last 5 years 16 Million dollars of the funds have supported clean water projects at home and around the world. 

Even though Earth Month is just one month out of the year, we celebrate all year long by being an environmentally friendly company which continuously gives back to society. We believe in treating ourselves, each other, and the planet with care and respect. Social responsibility is our responsibility.

There are hundreds of small steps we, as individuals, can take to help protect our Mother Earth and to make it a better place.
